Part A:
From these interviews I learned spacific information. I knew things were hard and bad during the great depression but that was all i heard. In these interviews, you get the real deal. Actual stories are being told! It really puts a better and more clear understanding on that time period.
During this time, jobs were really dangerous. Especially one working with tool, metals, etc! This one man Chris Thorsten was an iron worker and had a terrible accident. He got squeezed in betweena crane and broke his collar bone, all of his ribs, and 3 vertebrae. He had also heard a lot of stories about people falling of buildings. When he said that two men had just been killed, he almost made it sound like it wasn't a huge deal, like it was very common.
When it came to jobs, men and women were treated extremly different. These interviews showed womens opinions. It told their stories. For example, Anna Novak worked in stockyards. Not only was it a rough job where she had to work all the time, even on holiday but she had to deal with the men! It sounded like she had to wait on them but also deal with when they hit her butt, etc. Some women even had to do mens jobs. Elizabeth Miller once had to take in a large hog probably over 500 pounds all by herself. She said her husband was very dumb. That was probably an opinion all women shared for men during this time.
Not only was there hard times when it cam to jobs but also in brod general! One man lived in New York City and he had been living there for 25 years! Yet, he still hated it. He talked about all kinds of crime and just bad people. One word he used was, "Pimps." In my opinion there must really be something wrong if you live somewhere for that long and still manage to hate. He just kept saying I am in the city but the city is not in me.
As you can see, people had their own opinions and stories and I got to hear and read them. I'm sure the problems I just told you about are only a tiny portion of the tons of problems that people had during the great depession.
